Lesson 1: The Word of God
Memory Verse: Psalm 119:9–11 (NIV)
9 “How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to Your Word.
10 I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.
11 I have hidden Your word in my heart
that I might not sin against You.”
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:1–5 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Lesson Summary
The passage from 1 Peter clearly teaches us that desiring the Word of God is essential for spiritual growth. Just like babies crave milk to grow, Christians must long for the pure milk of the Word to be nourished spiritually.
That means you should make it a daily habit to read the Bible.
As the children’s song says:
“Read your Bible, pray every day — if you want to grow!”
God’s plan is not just for you to grow, but for you to be built up into a spiritual house, a holy priest, offering acceptable spiritual sacrifices like praise and worship.
